WelcomeAR Mobile Application

WelcomeAR as a Spatial Belonging System

WelcomeAR is an applied research prototype that explores augmented reality as a spatial translation layer within institutional environments. Rather than functioning solely as a navigational tool, the system is designed to reduce uncertainty, mitigate cognitive load, and activate early-stage belonging through contextual overlays and embedded interaction cues.

Spatial Translation

Activates contextual AR overlays that translate physical campus infrastructure into navigable spatial cues, reducing perceived uncertainty during early-stage orientation.

Cognitive Mediation

Provides location-aware narratives, multilingual translation, and structured informational scaffolding designed to mitigate cognitive overload associated with institutional complexity.

Social Activation

Integrates community markers and service access points within spatial pathways to foster voluntary engagement and early-stage belonging.

Beyond the Map
A WelcomeAR Audio Series

A qualitative exploration of belonging beyond navigation

While the AR prototype provides spatial and contextual navigation support, Beyond the Map addresses dimensions of transition that extend beyond interface logic.

Through reflective dialogue and lived narratives, the series examines how belonging is experienced, articulated, and negotiated during early academic adaptation.

This qualitative layer positions belonging not as a byproduct of navigation, but as a parallel design objective.
